Mussolini said, "Facism should rightly be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of government and corporate power." The aim of U.S. Imperialism Today is to inquire into the relationships between corporate interests and American policy on foreign relations, domestic programs, and business regulation. A dangerous reality exists when business treasuries unduly influence democracy and where government policy and corporate interests align.

U.S. Marine Corps General: War Profiteering Exposed

Article Source:
U.S. Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler is the recipient of two Congressional Medals of Honor and remains still today as one of the most honored, decorated, and beloved men in United States military history. Major General Butler testified to congress in 1934 of being approached and bribed by corporate plutocrats to lead 500,000 veterans to overthrow FDR, as Roosevelt's New Deal policies threatened the interests of business. This speech, subsequently published as a booklet, outlined in detail the true nature of American foreign policy as the primary vehicle for militant commercialism.

Article Summary:
• War generates massive profits for private companies in two ways: (1) The U.S. Government purchases substantial quantities of weapons, ammunition, supplies, and services from private businesses. (2) The resources of the defeated territory become available for purchase and sale to private bidders.
• The massive payments to these companies come from the tax revenue of U.S. Citizens.
• Through war and the tax payments for war to private companies, the general public unassumingly redistributes its wealth upwards to the few wealthy elite.
• The business elite intentionally influence the U.S. political system in order to harvest wealth from the general public through global expeditionary warfare.
• While this article dates to 1935, the scheme of exploitation and mass murder for profit is only more sophisticated today.
• Some Article Examples:
(1) General Chemical, pre-World War I: $800,000 annual profit. War years: $12 million per year.
(2) DuPont, pre-World War I: $6 million annual profit. War years: $58 million per year.
(3) Utah Copper, pre-World War I: $5 million annual profit. War years: $21 million per year.
(4) Bethlehem Steel, pre-World War I: $6 million annual profit. War years: $49 million per year.

Executions Without Trial: White House Defends Drone Killings of U.S. Citizens Abroad

Article Source:
(1) White House Press Secretary Jay Carney via ABC News

(2) Department of Justice via NBC News

Article Summary:
(1) White House Press Briefing.
• White House lawyers have declared that the assassination of United States Citizens in foreign countries is lawful.
• White House Press Secretary Jay Carney states: "The United States does not require clear evidence."
• An American Citizen need only be accused as a terror suspect to earn execution.

(2) DoJ white paper via NBC.
• Military conflict renders the rights of U.S. Citizens Null and Void: The 4th Amendment and the 5th Amendment Due Process Clause do not protect American citizens because the "government's interest in waging war" is more compelling than "the private interest in the accuracy of a criminal proceeding that places an individual's life or liberty at risk" (p.6). White House counsel advises that the "realities of war" make judicial process due a citizen suspected of acting militarily against the United States unreasonable. Asymmetrical warfare creates an imminent need for judgment that due process impedes. Therefore, the military aims of the U.S. Government voids the rights of citizens to be free from extrajudicial execution. (p.7)
• No evidence required: "The condition that a [suspected] operational leader [with U.S. Citizenship] present an imminent threat of violent attack against the United States does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons and interests will take place in the immediate future" (p.7). Bracketed text added for clarification.
